The overarching purpose of the mentoring program is to foster career development of students and early career microbiologists of the society, both researchers and working microbiologists. In the program, mentees will receive one-on-one mentoring to assist in their career goals and help build their professional networks.

The program will run over a six-month period, with the expectation that mentees will meet with their mentor for 1 hour per month (face-to-face or via video/telephone) during that time.

    Eligibility

    • Be a current member of the ASM

    • Be at least 2 years post-PhD of your last university qualification

Why be a Mentee?

  • Obtain independent guidance to assist in your career development and goals

  • Build professional networks

  • Gain knowledge of the sector

  • Improve communication skills and self-confidence

    Eligibility

    • Be a current member of the ASM

    • Be living/working/studying in the state/SIG to which you are applying (states participating in the program include VIC, TAS, SA/NT, QLD, WA and the Education SIG)

    • Not have participated in the program previously

    • Be an early career microbiologist including:

      o   Researchers (less than 5 years post-PhD)

      o   Clinical microbiologists or microbiologists working in industry (less than 5 years post-graduation date)

      o   Students (undergraduate, masters or PhD)
