ASM Dena Lyras Early Career Researcher Travel Award

The ASM Dena Lyras Early Career Researcher Travel Award is presented annually to one early-career researcher (ECR) conducting research in WA to attend and deliver an oral presentation at the Annual Scientific Meeting of the ASM.

In WA, shortlisted candidates are invited to deliver an oral presentation at the ASM WA Travel Awards Night following which the best ECR presenter is awarded the ASM Dena Lyras Early Career Researcher Travel Award. The award covers conference registration fees and provides a 1,500 AUD allowance to be used for travel and/or accommodation.

The successful ASM Dena Lyras Early Career Researcher Travel Awardee will present alongside ECR travel awardees from other Australian states in the ECR Awards Symposium session at the ASM Annual Scientific Meeting.

Deadline for 2026 applications: March 6th 2026, 5 pm (AWST)

  • Full conference registration fees (early-bird rate)

  • Allowance of 1,500 AUD to be used for travel and/or accommodation

- Eligibility

  • Applicants must have been awarded a PhD

  • Applicants must have been conferred their PhD no more than 5 years prior to the closing date for submissions, relative to career disruption

  • Applicants must be an ASM member (or apply during the application)

  • Applicants must not have previously received an ASM ECR travel award

  • Applicants must submit an abstract with the intention of giving an oral presentation, the successful applicant is guaranteed a slot in the ASM Dena Lyras ECR Awards Symposium Session

  • Attend and present at the ASM Annual Scientific Meeting, in person

- Assessment

  • Finalists for the award will be selected based on their submitted application (abstract, CV, motivation statement)

  • All finalists will deliver a 12-min presentation at our annual ASM WA Travel Awards Night

  • The best presenter will be awarded the ASM Dena Lyras ECR Travel Award
