Jess Thompson is an editor at Nature Microbiology. After a PhD in Salmonella pathogenesis and two postdocs at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia, Portugal, in host-microbe interactions, in August 2022 Jess joined the editorial team at Nature Microbiology. Her talk will discuss how she ended up as an editor, provide a behind the scenes look at publishing within the Nature Portfolio, discuss what the job involves, its advantages and disadvantages, and the career possibilities. She will also answer any questions you might have about the excitements and challenges of moving from experiments to editorials, or the publishing process more broadly.
